Sociotechnical system UTS
Underground transport systems (UTS) are complex sociotechnical systems in which many people interact with each other in a variety of ways through technical installations. This makes it difficult, for example, to ensure that the ventilation procedure for fires designed by the engineers, its operation by the operators, the behaviour of the tunnel users and the intervention measures of the fire service are optimally coordinated, and fit together. Such systems arise through communications between the parties involved. Therefore, they cannot be fully understood or optimally designed from the outside. Only the people themselves who form the system can find the right solution. After all, in the end, it consists of a reciprocal coordination.
We counsel systemically
Systemic counselling means integrating the entire system and not just looking at single aspects. Therefore, our counselling is to moderate the communication between fire services, municipalities, tunnel designers, builders and carriers, supervisory authorities and users, which is necessary for the respective problem-solving. Of course, with reference to the experience from other UTS, we can often put forward suggestions ourselves – but these are only suggestions. What fits, always has to be decided by the system participants themselves.
